Titirangi Volunteer Coastguard currently operates two CRV’s.
Trusts Rescue (ZMT7878): 12.5m Rayglass Protector, with twin 300hp Suzuki outboards. This vessel is used primary for jobs either on or over the Manukau Bar. It has over 900 litres of fuel and can carryout extended searches plus stay out in the case bad weather where the Bar may be too dangerous to cross. This vessel is sponsored by the Trusts in the Waitakere area and hence the name.
Manukau Rescue 2 (ZMWM): 4.8m Naiad jet boat. This vessel has just been obtained to complement Trusts Rescue, by carrying out inner harbour jobs, shallow water jobs or rock work. Currently we are looking for a sponsor for this vessel.
Both vessels are in the Maritime Safety Authority’s “Safe Ship Management System” which involves weekly, monthly and quarterly safety audits. The procedure also sets safe operational standards, minimum crew training requirements and involves a formal reporting system. The key goal of the crew-training programme is personal safety. Through discussion, written examination and practical tests, our CRV crews are exposed to a wide variety of scenarios, many of which are potentially hazardous. A fully trained crewmember must be capable of identifying a “potential risk”, and mitigating that risk whilst working in the best interest of the victim.
